Day 23: It has to be perfect.

Many of us struggle with the burden of perfectionism, myself included. We often blur the lines between standards of excellence and perfectionistic tendencies, allowing even the smallest imperfections to overshadow our efforts. The enemy capitalizes on this, whispering insidious lies that convince us to abandon our endeavors if they fall short of perfection. It's a trap we fall into all too easily, one that I've personally stumbled into numerous times.

But we must pause and reflect: Did the Lord truly call us to this task, or did we rush into it without seeking His guidance? Just because something appears good on the surface doesn't necessarily mean it aligns with God's specific will for us.

The roots of our perfectionistic tendencies are varied and deep-seated—stemming from insecurity, past invalidation, criticism, self-doubt, or even pride. These lies distort our focus, steering us away from the simplicity of obedience to God's will.

Matthew 7:21-23 says, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’”

Jesus warns us that merely professing His name and performing outwardly impressive deeds are insufficient for entering the kingdom of heaven. True obedience to the Father's will is what matters most.

We often become so fixated on trivial details that we lose sight of God's greater purpose. This misguided focus leads us to pursue endeavors outside of His will, causing us to miss out on the blessings and breakthroughs He intended for us.

Let go of perfectionism, pursue obedience.

Dear God, forgive me for chasing the things that are not of you. I pray that you realign my heart’s desires, and my words and actions reflect you. I pray that I am quick to listen and obey. Thank you for your continued guidance. Amen.
