Day 24: Why me?

Life can be unforgiving, even brutal at times, especially when hardships pile up relentlessly. In the midst of such trials, it's natural to feel overwhelmed and question the fairness of it all. We may find ourselves asking, "What did I do to deserve this?" or "Why me?"

 

Consider the experiences of individuals like the woman with the issue of blood, Zechariah and Elizabeth, who faced the challenges of old age and childlessness, or Naomi, who endured the loss of her husband and sons.

 

Jeremiah, who was considered the “weeping prophet” wrote this in the book of Lamentations (3:22-24), "Because of the Lord's great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, "The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him."

 

Even Job, who lost nearly everything, declared, "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised (Job 1:21).”

 

If we're not cautious, the "why me?" mentality can spiral into a vortex of despair. While these thoughts often emerge automatically, we have the power to decide how we respond to them. We can allow them to take root and consume us, or we can actively choose gratitude and praise as the antidote to these poisonous lies.

 

While it might seem insensitive to suggest gratitude during times of adversity, failing to pivot from negative thoughts can severely impact our emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. It's crucial to redirect our minds to the truth and intentionally foster a mindset of praise and worship toward our Lord and Savior.

 

Dear God, life has not been perfect, and we are struggling. In this moment, we turn our eyes towards you and praise you for who you are! We love you and we are grateful that you are working all things together for our good and your glory. Amen.
